Dealing with Stress

Stress and anxiety are perhaps the two biggest obstacles to learning -- especially learning a language -- and they certainly take a lot of the pleasure out of the process. Here are some different tools for dealing with stress. They can help you to be a better student, a happier person and to have more peace and satisfaction in your life. Many of these tools you may already be aware of, but I suggest you try something new.


  • Stay in the present moment
  • Get out and be around people, spend time with friends
  • Breathe deeply
  • Try something new
  • Affirmations
  • Body work - yin yoga, massages, noticing my body
  • Take a walk
  • Grounding 
  • Feel your feelings - allow the waves without getting caught up in it, don't over think 
  • Identify feelings
  • Gratitude
  • Talk to someone special maybe your mom, dad, sibling or best friend.
